Explanation

Chapter 7 ends by saying that integrated knowledge of Krishna across existence, divine order, and sacrifice prepares the mind for remembrance even at death.

Read the traditional commentary

The chapter closes by naming three dimensions through which the Divine pervades existence: adhibhuta, the realm of changing elements; adhidaiva, the realm of cosmic powers; and adhiyajna, the principle of sacrifice within all action. Those who truly know Him in all these aspects, with steadfast mind (yukta-chetasah), know Him 'even at the time of death' — the supreme test, when the mind is most prone to scatter.

To remember God at life's final moment is the fruit of remembering Him throughout life. These technical terms, which Krishna will unfold in the next chapter, point to a single truth: the Divine is the inner reality of matter, of the gods, and of every sacred act.

One who has woven this awareness into the fabric of living will not lose it at dying. The chapter thus ends by turning our gaze toward the threshold of death, promising that steady remembrance carries the soul safely across.
