Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Krishna describes a beautiful mutuality of peace. The dear devotee neither disturbs the world nor is disturbed by it (yasmān na udvijate lokaḥ, lokān na udvijate ca yaḥ). His presence brings no anxiety to others — no harshness, threat, or unrest — and the turbulence of others cannot shake his own calm. Inner peace becomes a gift to everyone around him.
This steadiness rests on freedom from the four agitations: elation (harṣa), resentment or impatience (amarṣa), fear (bhaya), and anxiety (udvega). These are the swings that toss the ordinary mind. The devotee, anchored in God, is released from them, and so moves through the world like still, clear water that troubles no one and is troubled by no one.
💡 Key Takeaway
The true devotee neither disturbs others nor is disturbed by them, free from elation, anger, fear, and anxiety.
