अर्जुन उवाच | एवं सततयुक्ता ये भक्तास्त्वां पर्युपासते | ये चाप्यक्षरमव्यक्तं तेषां के योगवित्तमाः ||१२-१||

Chapter 12 opens with one of Arjuna's most consequential questions, the seed from which the whole discourse on devotion (bhakti) will grow. Having heard Krishna reveal both His personal form and the formless Absolute, Arjuna asks plainly: who are the better yogis — those who worship Krishna as a personal God with steadfast love (satata-yuktāḥ), or those who meditate upon the imperishable, unmanifested Brahman (akṣaram avyaktam)?
The question is not idle curiosity but the perennial dilemma of every seeker: should the heart reach toward a God it can love and relate to, or toward an Absolute beyond all name and form? By naming both paths with respect, Arjuna invites Krishna to weigh them — and Krishna's answer, beginning in the very next verse, gently affirms the path of loving devotion as the surer road for embodied beings.
