Explanation & Commentary

The portrait continues with qualities of inner stability. The dear devotee is ever content (santuṣṭaḥ satatam) — not waiting on circumstances for happiness, but resting in a contentment that the world cannot give or take away. He is steady, self-controlled (yata-ātmā), and firm in resolve (dṛḍha-niścayaḥ), unshaken in his commitment to the path.

The deciding mark is the last: mind and intellect alike are offered to God (mayi arpita-mano-buddhiḥ). This recalls verse 8, where Krishna first asked for exactly this surrender of feeling and understanding. Such a one Krishna calls, simply and tenderly, "My devotee, dear to Me" — the refrain that closes each verse in this passage, revealing the loving relationship at devotion's heart.

💡 Key Takeaway

Contentment, firm resolve, and a mind wholly offered to God make a devotee dear to the Lord.
