Chapter 11, Verse 12
दिवि सूर्यसहस्रस्य भवेद्युगपदुत्थिता | यदि भाः सदृशी सा स्याद्भासस्तस्य महात्मनः ||११-१२||
divi sūryasahasrasya bhavedyugapadutthitā . yadi bhāḥ sadṛśī sā syādbhāsastasya mahātmanaḥ ||11-12||
Meaning
11.12 If the splendour of a thousand suns were to blaze out at once (simultaneously) in the sky, that would be the splendour of that mighty Being (great Soul).

This is among the most famous images in all scripture. Sanjaya reaches for the brightest thing the human mind can conceive — surya-sahasra, a thousand suns — and imagines them all blazing at once in the sky. Even that, he says, would only begin to approach the bhas, the radiance, of the cosmic form of that mahatman, the mighty Being.
The verse marks a shift in tone. The earlier descriptions dwelt on ornament and beauty; now we feel sheer overwhelming power, light too vast to look upon. Splendour at this scale is not gentle — it is the kind of brilliance that obliterates the small self that gazes upon it. This is the threshold of the terrifying vision soon to come. The Divine's light does not merely illuminate; in its fullness it consumes, revealing how utterly the personal ego is dwarfed before the infinite Reality that underlies all that is.

11.6 Behold the Adityas, the Vasus, the Rudras, the two Asvins and also the Maruts; behold many wonders never seen before, O Arjuna.
इहैकस्थं जगत्कृत्स्नं पश्याद्य सचराचरम् | मम देहे गुडाकेश यच्चान्यद् द्रष्टुमिच्छसि ||११-७||
ihaikasthaṃ jagatkṛtsnaṃ paśyādya sacarācaram . mama dehe guḍākeśa yaccānyad draṣṭumicchasi ||11-7||
11.7 Now behold, O Arjuna, in this, My body, the whole universe centred in one including the moving and the unmoving and whatever else thou desirest to see.
