Chapter 11, Verse 11

दिव्यमाल्याम्बरधरं दिव्यगन्धानुलेपनम् | सर्वाश्चर्यमयं देवमनन्तं विश्वतोमुखम् ||११-११||

divyamālyāmbaradharaṃ divyagandhānulepanam . sarvāścaryamayaṃ devamanantaṃ viśvatomukham ||11-11||

Meaning

11.11 Wearing divine garlands (necklaces) and apparel, anointed with divine unguents, the all-wonderful, resplendent (Being) endless with faces on all sides.

Explanation & Commentary

The description continues with sensuous, radiant detail — divine garlands, divine garments, divine fragrances. The cosmic form is not austere or abstract; it is resplendent and adorned, sarva-ascarya-mayam, made entirely of wonder. Every sense is overwhelmed by its glory.

Two great words seal the verse: anantam, endless, and visvato-mukham, having faces turned in every direction. There is no side from which the Divine does not gaze back; wherever Arjuna looks, the form looks at him. This is a striking image of omnipresence. The Reality before him has no back, no hidden side, no place where it is absent. For the seeker, this is both comforting and humbling — we are never outside the Divine's sight, never beyond its reach. The same presence that fills the farthest reaches of the cosmos is fully turned toward each of us, here and now.

11.6 Behold the Adityas, the Vasus, the Rudras, the two Asvins and also the Maruts; behold many wonders never seen before, O Arjuna.

इहैकस्थं जगत्कृत्स्नं पश्याद्य सचराचरम् | मम देहे गुडाकेश यच्चान्यद् द्रष्टुमिच्छसि ||११-७||

ihaikasthaṃ jagatkṛtsnaṃ paśyādya sacarācaram . mama dehe guḍākeśa yaccānyad draṣṭumicchasi ||11-7||

11.7 Now behold, O Arjuna, in this, My body, the whole universe centred in one including the moving and the unmoving and whatever else thou desirest to see.
