Chapter 11, Verse 7

इहैकस्थं जगत्कृत्स्नं पश्याद्य सचराचरम् | मम देहे गुडाकेश यच्चान्यद् द्रष्टुमिच्छसि ||११-७||

ihaikasthaṃ jagatkṛtsnaṃ paśyādya sacarācaram . mama dehe guḍākeśa yaccānyad draṣṭumicchasi ||11-7||

Meaning

11.7 Now behold, O Arjuna, in this, My body, the whole universe centred in one including the moving and the unmoving and whatever else thou desirest to see.

Explanation & Commentary

Krishna now declares the totality of the vision: ekastham jagat krtsnam — the whole universe gathered into one place, within mama dehe, His own body. Everything sa-cara-acaram, moving and unmoving — every creature, every mountain and star — abides there together. And He adds that whatever else Arjuna might wish to see is also present.

The name Gudakesha, 'conqueror of sleep', is well chosen. Only one who has overcome the dullness of ordinary perception can witness this. The teaching pierces the illusion of separateness: the cosmos we experience as scattered across space and time is, in truth, one undivided whole resting in the Divine. Modern life trains us to see only fragments. The Gita points to the deeper reality — all that exists is held in a single embrace, and nothing is ever truly apart from its source.

11.6 Behold the Adityas, the Vasus, the Rudras, the two Asvins and also the Maruts; behold many wonders never seen before, O Arjuna.

न तु मां शक्यसे द्रष्टुमनेनैव स्वचक्षुषा | दिव्यं ददामि ते चक्षुः पश्य मे योगमैश्वरम् ||११-८||

na tu māṃ śakyase draṣṭumanenaiva svacakṣuṣā . divyaṃ dadāmi te cakṣuḥ paśya me yogamaiśvaram ||11-8||

11.8 But thou art not able to behold Me with these thine own eyes; I give thee the divine eye; behold My lordly Yoga.
