Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Krishna crowns his praise of knowledge with an unequivocal statement: na hi jñānena sadṛśaṃ pavitram — there is nothing in this world as purifying as knowledge. No ritual, no penance, no offering cleanses the soul so thoroughly, for knowledge removes the very root of impurity, which is ignorance of our true nature. Other purifiers touch the surface; wisdom reaches the source.
The second line reveals where and how this purity is found: the one perfected in yoga discovers it ātmani — within his own Self — and kālena — in due time. The seeker need not search outwardly; the supreme knowledge already abides within, waiting to be uncovered through sustained practice. Time and steady yoga ripen the inner ground until the truth dawns of itself. The highest purifier is not acquired from outside but realized within.
💡 Key Takeaway
Nothing purifies like true knowledge — and it is found not outside but within, ripening through steady practice in time.
