अपि चेदसि पापेभ्यः सर्वेभ्यः पापकृत्तमः | सर्वं ज्ञानप्लवेनैव वृजिनं सन्तरिष्यसि ||४-३६||
api cedasi pāpebhyaḥ sarvebhyaḥ pāpakṛttamaḥ . sarvaṃ jñānaplavenaiva vṛjinaṃ santariṣyasi ||4-36||

4.36 Even if thou art the most sinful of all sinners, yet thou shalt verily cross all sins by the raft of knowledge.

This verse is one of the Gita's great assurances of redemption. Krishna declares that even if one were the most sinful of all sinners (pāpakṛttamaḥ), the jñāna-plava — the raft of knowledge — can carry him safely across the entire ocean of sin (vṛjina). No past, however dark, is beyond the reach of awakening wisdom. The door is never closed.
The image of the raft is tender and powerful. Sin is pictured as a turbulent flood, and knowledge as the vessel that bears us over it unharmed. This is not a license to do wrong, but a profound message of hope: spiritual awakening can transform anyone, regardless of their history. vītarāgabhayakrodhā manmayā māmupāśritāḥ . bahavo jñānatapasā pūtā madbhāvamāgatāḥ ||4-10||
4.10 Freed from attachment, fear and anger, absorbed in Me, taking refuge in Me, purified by the fire of knowledge, many have attained to My Being.
