Chapter 3, Verse 7

यस्त्विन्द्रियाणि मनसा नियम्यारभतेऽर्जुन | कर्मेन्द्रियैः कर्मयोगमसक्तः स विशिष्यते ||३-७||

yastvindriyāṇi manasā niyamyārabhate.arjuna . karmendriyaiḥ karmayogamasaktaḥ sa viśiṣyate ||3-7||

Meaning

3.7 But whosoever, controlling the senses by the mind, O Arjuna, engages himself in Karma Yoga with the organs of action, without attachment, he excels.

Explanation & Commentary

Having described the hypocrite, Krishna now presents the genuine practitioner. The one who excels first masters the senses through the mind — inner discipline — and then engages fully in action through the organs of work, but asakta, without attachment to the fruits.

This is the heart of karma-yoga. The order matters: control the mind first, then act. Such a person does not flee the world but works within it freely, because no clinging binds the results to the ego. Krishna deliberately ranks this seeker above the one who merely sits in false restraint. Active, engaged, yet inwardly unattached — this is the integration Arjuna sought. True spirituality is not measured by withdrawal but by the purity and freedom with which one participates in life's necessary work.

3.3 The Blessed Lord said In this world there is a twofold path, as I said before, O sinless one; the path of knowledge of the Sankhyas and the path of action of the Yogins.

न कर्मणामनारम्भान्नैष्कर्म्यं पुरुषोऽश्नुते | न च संन्यसनादेव सिद्धिं समधिगच्छति ||३-४||

na karmaṇāmanārambhānnaiṣkarmyaṃ puruṣo.aśnute . na ca saṃnyasanādeva siddhiṃ samadhigacchati ||3-4||

3.4 Not by non-performance of actions does man reach actionlessness; nor by mere renunciation does he attain to perfection.
