Chapter 3, Verse 26

न बुद्धिभेदं जनयेदज्ञानां कर्मसङ्गिनाम् | जोषयेत्सर्वकर्माणि विद्वान्युक्तः समाचरन् ||३-२६||

na buddhibhedaṃ janayedajñānāṃ karmasaṅginām . joṣayetsarvakarmāṇi vidvānyuktaḥ samācaran ||3-26||

Meaning

3.26 Let no wise man unsettle the mind of ignorant people who are attached to action; he should engage them in all actions, himself fulfilling them with devotion.

Explanation & Commentary

Krishna adds a teaching of wise compassion. The enlightened should not create buddhi-bheda — a disturbance of understanding — in those who are still attached to action and not yet ready for the higher truth of detachment. Rather, the wise should encourage others in their work and, crucially, lead by personally performing duty with steadfast devotion.

This is a counsel against premature or careless preaching. To tell people who find meaning and discipline in attached action that 'nothing matters' can confuse and harm them, loosening their grip on duty without offering anything stable in its place. The wise teach gently, meeting people where they are, and demonstrate the higher path through their own example rather than unsettling words. True spiritual leadership uplifts gradually, never destabilizes. The best teaching is often a life well lived, drawing others upward by quiet example.

na me pārthāsti kartavyaṃ triṣu lokeṣu kiñcana . nānavāptamavāptavyaṃ varta eva ca karmaṇi ||3-22||

3.22 There is nothing in the three worlds, O Arjuna, that should be done by Me, nor is there anything unattained that should be attained; yet I engage Myself in action.
