Chapter 15, Verse 19

यो मामेवमसम्मूढो जानाति पुरुषोत्तमम् | स सर्वविद्भजति मां सर्वभावेन भारत ||१५-१९||

yo māmevamasammūḍho jānāti puruṣottamam . sa sarvavidbhajati māṃ sarvabhāvena bhārata ||15-19||

Meaning

15.19 He who, undeluded, knows Me thus as the highest Purusha, he, knowing all, worships Me with his whole being (heart), O Arjuna.

Explanation & Commentary

Krishna now reveals the transformative fruit of the knowledge just imparted. One who, free from delusion (asammūḍhaḥ), truly knows Him as the Puruṣottama — the Supreme Person — becomes sarvavit, the knower of all. This is a striking claim: to know the source of everything is, in a sense, to know everything that matters. When the root is grasped, the meaning of all the branches becomes clear.

But Krishna does not let knowledge remain merely intellectual. The natural and inevitable expression of this true knowing is sarva-bhāvena bhajati — worship with one's whole being, the entire heart poured out in love. Genuine understanding of God does not produce dry detachment but flowers into wholehearted devotion. This verse beautifully unites jnana (knowledge) and bhakti (love): to truly know the Supreme is to love Him completely. The path of the chapter, which began with cutting down the tree of bondage, culminates here in joyful, total surrender to the Beloved.

15.4 Then That goal should be sought for, whither having gone none returns again. I seek refuge in that Primeval Purusha Whence streamed forth the ancient activity or energy.

उत्क्रामन्तं स्थितं वापि भुञ्जानं वा गुणान्वितम् | विमूढा नानुपश्यन्ति पश्यन्ति ज्ञानचक्षुषः ||१५-१०||

utkrāmantaṃ sthitaṃ vāpi bhuñjānaṃ vā guṇānvitam . vimūḍhā nānupaśyanti paśyanti jñānacakṣuṣaḥ ||15-10||

15.10 The deluded do not see Him Who departs, stays and enjoys; but they who possess the eye of knowledge behold Him.
