Chapter 18, Verse 54

ब्रह्मभूतः प्रसन्नात्मा न शोचति न काङ्क्षति | समः सर्वेषु भूतेषु मद्भक्तिं लभते पराम् ||१८-५४||

brahmabhūtaḥ prasannātmā na śocati na kāṅkṣati . samaḥ sarveṣu bhūteṣu madbhaktiṃ labhate parām ||18-54||

Meaning

18.54 Becoming Brahman, serene in the Self, he neither grieves nor desires, the same to all beings, he obtains supreme devotion to Me.

Explanation & Commentary

Krishna describes the liberated state, brahma-bhuta, one who has become Brahman. Such a soul is serene in the Self, free of grief and craving, and equal-minded toward all beings. And from this lofty realization, beautifully, flows para-bhakti — supreme devotion to the Lord.

This is one of the Gita's most luminous turns. We might expect Self-realization to be the final destination, yet Krishna reveals that beyond it lies the highest love. The one who has known the impersonal Absolute does not stop in solitary peace but blossoms into boundless devotion. Wisdom and love are not rivals; the deepest knowing flowers naturally into the deepest loving, and that supreme devotion is the very gateway to knowing Krishna in truth.

18.12 The threefold fruit of action (evil, good and mixed) accrues after death to the non-abandoners, but never to the abandoners.

मुक्तसङ्गोऽनहंवादी धृत्युत्साहसमन्वितः | सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्योर्निर्विकारः कर्ता सात्त्विक उच्यते ||१८-२६||

muktasaṅgo.anahaṃvādī dhṛtyutsāhasamanvitaḥ . siddhyasiddhyornirvikāraḥ kartā sāttvika ucyate ||18-26||

18.26 An agent who is free from attachment, non-egoistic, endowed with firmness and enthusiasm, and unaffected by success or failure, is called Sattvic (pure).
