Chapter 11, Verse 51

अर्जुन उवाच | दृष्ट्वेदं मानुषं रूपं तव सौम्यं जनार्दन | इदानीमस्मि संवृत्तः सचेताः प्रकृतिं गतः ||११-५१||

arjuna uvāca . dṛṣṭvedaṃ mānuṣaṃ rūpaṃ tava saumyaṃ janārdana . idānīmasmi saṃvṛttaḥ sacetāḥ prakṛtiṃ gataḥ ||11-51||

Meaning

11.51 Arjuna said Having seen this Thy gentle human form, O Krishna, now I am composed and am restored to my own nature.

Explanation & Commentary

Arjuna breathes again. Seeing the saumya manusam rupam — the gentle, human form of Krishna — restored before him, he reports the return of his composure. He is samvrttah, settled; sacetah, conscious and clear once more; and prakrtim gatah, returned to his own natural state. The trembling and disorientation of the cosmic vision have passed.

There is deep wisdom in this homecoming. Arjuna does not remain forever in the rarefied heights of the cosmic vision; he comes back to himself, to the ground of ordinary awareness where life must be lived and duty performed. The encounter with the Infinite was transformative, but its fruit is to be carried into normal life, not to keep one suspended in overwhelm. This is the proper completion of any genuine spiritual experience. We touch the vast, and then we return, changed, to the human scale where our work awaits. The gentle human form of Krishna is precisely the presence through which the eternal meets us in everyday life.

ततः स विस्मयाविष्टो हृष्टरोमा धनञ्जयः | प्रणम्य शिरसा देवं कृताञ्जलिरभाषत ||११-१४||

tataḥ sa vismayāviṣṭo hṛṣṭaromā dhanañjayaḥ . praṇamya śirasā devaṃ kṛtāñjalirabhāṣata ||11-14||

11.14 Then, Arjuna, filled with wonder and with his hair standing on end, bowed down his head to the God and spoke with joined palms.
