Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Krishna names Himself the beginning, middle, and end of all creation — the unbroken thread running through every cycle of manifestation. Then comes a glory dear to every seeker: 'Among the sciences I am adhyātma-vidyā, the science of the Self.'
Of all knowledge — and the human mind has pursued countless branches — Krishna singles out self-knowledge as His supreme manifestation. Why? Because while other sciences master the outer world, only Self-knowledge liberates. It is the one learning that ends all sorrow and reveals our deathless nature. He also names vāda, honest truth-seeking dialogue (as opposed to mere quarrelsome wrangling), as His presence among debaters. The message is clear: pursue the knowledge that frees, and seek truth through sincere inquiry, not contention.
💡 Key Takeaway
Of all knowledge, the science of the Self is supreme — it alone liberates and ends all sorrow.
