Chapter 10, Verse 3

यो मामजमनादिं च वेत्ति लोकमहेश्वरम् | असम्मूढः स मर्त्येषु सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते ||१०-३||

yo māmajamanādiṃ ca vetti lokamaheśvaram . asammūḍhaḥ sa martyeṣu sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate ||10-3||

Meaning

10.3 He who knows Me as unborn and beginningless, as the great Lord of the worlds, he, among mortals, is undeluded and he is liberated from all sins.

Explanation & Commentary

Krishna names the fruit of right knowledge. To know Him as aja (unborn), anādi (beginningless), and loka-maheśvara (the great Lord of all worlds) is to dissolve the fundamental confusion of life — the delusion of separateness and the identification of the eternal Self with the perishable body.

The one freed of this confusion is called asammūḍhaḥ, 'undeluded,' and such a person, even while still mortal, is liberated from all sins. Why? Because sin springs from delusion — from acting as though the small self were supreme. When the true Lord is known as the source of all, the ego's grip loosens, and with it the whole tangle of selfish action that binds the soul.

10.32 Among creations I am the beginning, the middle and also the end, O Arjuna; among the sciences I am the science of the Self; and I am the logic among controversialists.

दण्डो दमयतामस्मि नीतिरस्मि जिगीषताम् | मौनं चैवास्मि गुह्यानां ज्ञानं ज्ञानवतामहम् ||१०-३८||

daṇḍo damayatāmasmi nītirasmi jigīṣatām . maunaṃ caivāsmi guhyānāṃ jñānaṃ jñānavatāmaham ||10-38||

10.38 Of those who punish, I am the sceptre; among those who seek victory, I am statesmanship; and also among secrets, I am silence; knowledge among knowers I am.
