Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Among the most sacred glories named here, two stand out for the practising devotee. First, 'among words I am the single syllable Om' (ekam akṣaram) — the primordial sound from which all mantras flow, the very vibration of the Absolute. Second, 'among sacrifices I am japa-yajña,' the silent, loving repetition of the divine Name.
This is deeply encouraging. Of all forms of worship, Krishna singles out japa — accessible to everyone, requiring no elaborate ritual, only a quiet heart and a repeated holy name. Anyone, anywhere, in any condition can perform this 'sacrifice.' And among the immovable, He is the Himalayas — vast, serene, eternal. Together these images point the seeker toward a practice both simple and sublime: steady inner repetition that lifts the mind to mountain-like calm.
💡 Key Takeaway
Of all worship, the simple, loving repetition of the divine Name is among the highest and most accessible.
