Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Krishna continues, moving inward from the cosmic to the intimate. Among the Vedas He is the Sama-Veda, the one set to melody and song — for music carries the soul toward the Divine. Among the gods He is Indra (Vāsava), their chief.
Then comes a striking turn: 'Among the senses I am the mind (manas), and among beings I am consciousness (cetanā).' Here the glories move from the outer world into the very faculties by which we perceive it. The mind that coordinates the senses, and the awareness that lights up all experience — these too are divine manifestations. This is a precious reminder that the search for God need not always look outward. The very power by which you are aware right now is itself a glory of the Lord.
💡 Key Takeaway
Even the mind that perceives and the awareness that lights up all experience are manifestations of the Divine.
