Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Before listing particular glories, Krishna gives the foundational one: 'I am the Self (ātmā) seated in the hearts of all beings' (sarva-bhūtāśaya-sthitaḥ). The supreme vibhūti is not any external object but the innermost reality of every living thing. God is closer than the closest — the very Self within.
He is also ādi, madhya, and anta — the beginning, middle, and end of all beings: their origin, their sustaining presence, and their final dissolution. Thus the Divine encircles existence entirely, from within and throughout. This verse anchors all the glories that follow: whatever splendid thing Krishna will name, the deepest place to find Him is not far away in the heavens but here, in the secret cave of one's own heart.
💡 Key Takeaway
The supreme place to find the Divine is not outside but within, as the very Self seated in your own heart.
