Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Now Arjuna makes his great request — the one that opens the magnificent catalogue of divine glories filling the rest of the chapter. 'Tell me, without reserve (aśeṣeṇa), of Your divine vibhūtis — the glories by which You pervade and sustain all the worlds.'
The word vibhūti means a special, conspicuous manifestation of divine power and splendour. Arjuna senses that the Infinite, though formless and beyond grasp, shows itself in the most excellent things of creation. He longs to learn where, concretely, he might behold the Lord's presence. This is the prayer of every devotee who wishes to see God not only in abstract truth but in the living textures of the world — a yearning Krishna is about to satisfy in glorious detail.
💡 Key Takeaway
The sincere heart longs to perceive the Divine not only in abstraction but in the living splendour of creation.
