Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Continuing His vivid catalogue, Krishna names Himself the pure fragrance of the earth, the brilliance of fire, the life pulsing in all creatures, and the austerity that burns in the disciplined. Each is the indwelling essence — the quality that makes a thing radiant, alive, or holy. He is not the soil but its sweet scent; not the flame but its glow; not the ascetic but the fervour of their devotion.
Notice that He claims the 'life in all beings.' The same vitality that stirs in you stirs in every creature, and it is divine. This perception breeds reverence and compassion — for to harm another life is to disregard the very presence of God within it. And by naming Himself the tapas of ascetics, Krishna reminds us that even our highest spiritual effort is, at its root, His own power working through us.
💡 Key Takeaway
The same divine life glows in every creature and fuels every sincere effort — let that recognition deepen your reverence.
