Word-by-Word Meaning
Explanation & Commentary
Here Krishna gives one of the Gita's most quoted and quietly powerful lines: yo yac-chraddhah sa eva sah — 'as a person's faith is, so is that person.' We are, in essence, what we deeply believe in and hold sacred. The faith we live by is not a peripheral opinion but the very substance of our character; the human being is shraddha-maya, woven out of faith.
This insight carries a practical warning and a hopeful promise. The warning: our convictions silently shape our destiny, so misplaced or lower faith drags the whole person down. The promise: because we become what we revere, we can consciously redirect our faith toward what is true and elevating. Change the object and quality of your devotion, and over time you change yourself.
💡 Key Takeaway
You become what you truly revere — so choose carefully where you place your deepest faith.
