Chapter 13, Verse 23
उपद्रष्टानुमन्ता च भर्ता भोक्ता महेश्वरः | परमात्मेति चाप्युक्तो देहेऽस्मिन्पुरुषः परः ||१३-२३||
upadraṣṭānumantā ca bhartā bhoktā maheśvaraḥ . paramātmeti cāpyukto dehe.asminpuruṣaḥ paraḥ ||13-23||

13.23 The Supreme Soul in this body is also called the spectator, the permitter, the supporter, the enjoyer, the great Lord and the Supreme Self.

Explanation & Commentary
Krishna now describes the transcendent presence within the very same body that is the field. Though seated in this body, the supreme spirit relates to nature's activity not as an agent but in subtler ways. It is the upadrashta — the silent onlooker who simply witnesses; the anumanta — the permitter who sanctions but does not compel; the bhartri — the supporter that upholds the whole; the bhoktri — the experiencer; the great Lord (Maheshvara), and the Supreme Self (Paramatma).
These names reveal a presence intimately near yet utterly free. Within each of us is not only the small striving self but this luminous witness, the Paramatma, observing all without being entangled. The teaching invites a shift of identity: instead of being lost as the anxious doer in the field, we can recognise the serene observer who has been present all along. To live from the standpoint of the witness is to find within our own being the steady, lordly freedom that nothing in the field can disturb.

13.7 Desire, hatred, pleasure, pain, the aggregate (the body), intelligence, fortitude the field has thus been briefly described with its modifications.
असक्तिरनभिष्वङ्गः पुत्रदारगृहादिषु | नित्यं च समचित्तत्वमिष्टानिष्टोपपत्तिषु ||१३-१०||
asaktiranabhiṣvaṅgaḥ putradāragṛhādiṣu . nityaṃ ca samacittatvamiṣṭāniṣṭopapattiṣu ||13-10||
13.10 Non-attachment, non-identification of the Self with son, wife, home and the rest, and constant even-mindedness on the attainment of the desirable and the undesirable.
