सञ्जय उवाच एवमुक्तो हृषीकेशो गुडाकेशेन भारत। सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये स्थापयित्वा रथोत्तमम्।।

Sanjaya said: O Dhritarashtra, thus addressed by Gudakesha (Arjuna), Hrishikesha (Krishna) placed the finest chariot in the middle of both armies.

Krishna responds to Arjuna's request immediately and without comment, placing the chariot exactly where Arjuna asked. The divine teacher does not impose — he serves. This is a profound model of the guru-disciple relationship: the teacher creates the conditions for the student's learning without forcing it. Krishna knows what Arjuna is about to see and what will follow, yet he places the chariot in the middle without preemption or warning.
Arjuna is called 'Gudakesha' — conqueror of sleep — an epithet that emphasises his mastery of tamas, the quality of inertia and unconsciousness. The irony is sharp: the conqueror of sleep is about to be overcome by the most intimate and paralysing form of unconsciousness — the delusion of attachment. Even our greatest strengths can be undermined by our deepest attachments.
The 'finest chariot' (rathottama) drawn by divine horses, with Hanuman on the banner and Krishna at the reins, is now positioned at the exact centre of the cosmic drama. Everything is in place. पश्यैतां पाण्डुपुत्राणामाचार्य महतीं चमूम्। व्यूढां द्रुपदपुत्रेण तव शिष्येण धीमता।।
paśyaitāṁ pāṇḍu-putrāṇām ācārya mahatīṁ camūm vyūḍhāṁ drupada-putreṇa tava śiṣyeṇa dhīmatā
O teacher, behold this mighty army of the sons of Pandu, so skilfully arrayed by the son of Drupada — your own talented student.
